Well, the Mig-29 flight model has been out for a few days and I've had time to mess with it. It's good once you learn some of it quirks. It's good in a turn once you get to a slower speed, but if you get too slow you'll have major trouble keeping it flying properly. Also it's throttle is very powerful (perhaps a bit too powerful). I've noticed if I move my slide throttle just a small amount I end up picking up a lot of speed almost immediately. That's a big problem when you're trying to taxi or adjust your speed to land. Also while taxing you need to us just small amounts of rudder. Using full rudder will send you sliding around.
On takeoff you'll need to be very careful. For me, the plane's nose will bob up and down and it get's very difficult to get it under control. I also notices a small problem with the stick input. I'll hold my flight controller perfectly still and the stick (and control indicator when Right Control + Enter is used) shows it's bobbing up and down. Of course the nose will also bob making it difficult to control.
Landing is a pain right now but I saw some good advice by a commenter on one of the Grim Reapers YouTube videos. Instead of following the HUD information and landing around 250 km/h touchdown between 290 and 300 km/h. You might bounce a small amount but you'll make it down safely. Of course, if your plane is bobbing around and seems to be unstable don't try to land. Just raise your gear, put on the afterburner and go around for another try.
For now, I'm hanging up the Mig-29 until a new update comes out where the bobbing and the bouncing is taken care of.

DCS: Big Day's to Come
Tomorrow at 2pm EST or October 8th 2am Beijing/Manila time Heatblur will be announcing the F-14 Tomcat. You can bet I'm going to stay up until 2am to see if they put it up for pre-order. I intend to order it the moment it goes on sale.
But there's more to this post than just a reminder for the F-14 reveal. Eagle Dynamics has finally announced that on October 10th we will finally receive the professional flight model, new cockpit, and more features on the Mig-29 for Flaming Cliffs 3. They will also be making the Mig-29 available for standalone purchase. Honestly, if you only want the Mig-29 then go ahead and get the standalone on the 10th. But if you get the full FC3 module you'll be able to fly the Mig-29 along with the F-15C, Su-25A, Su-27S, Su-33, and A-10A.
Of course, if you want to wait just a little bit longer you could pick up the Modern Air Combat module instead and get all of the FC3 planes along with the Mig-21bis, Mig-15bis, F-5E 3, A-10C, F-86F, and the L-39. As for me, I have FC3 and all the other planes except the L-39 already as full fidelity modules.
I'm sounding like a salesman on this post. 😛 I'm not meaning too, I'm just really excited about the F-14 and Mig-29. I've been waiting for over two year for the new Mig-29 flight model and over a year for the F-14. This is a good year for DCS in my opinion. I hope everyone is as excited about these planes as I am. Once I have the F-14 and the new Mig-29 in hand I'll try making some videos to share with you all.
Along with the announcement of the Mig-29 Professional Flight Model Eagle Dynamics announced a new WWII plane they are making. That's the Fw-190 A-8. I'm not sure why they are making an Fw-190 A-8 since we already have the Fw-190 D-9 but if that's what they want to make, then more power to them. I can honestly say I won't be buying that one. I'll save my money for the F-4E, Mig-19P, Mig-23MLA, and the JF-17. Those should be out within the next year or 2.
Keep an eye out for these new planes and others to come.

DCS Free Weekend
There's been a little information going around DCS. Mainly that the Modern Air Combat (MAC) should be released sometime this fall. But, there's bigger news than that out today.
According to Matt Wagner of Eagle Dynamics, the F/A-18C, Su-33, and Persian Gulf Map are free to use from September 28 to October 1. If you're new to DCS and want to try something other than air to ground attacks with the free Su-25T then now is the perfect time.
Just go to the DCS E-store or go onto DCS on Steam if you prefer and download those 3 for free and give them a try. I bought all 3 a long time ago and I can honestly say you won't be disappointed.
With these 3 modules you'll be able to try out carrier landings, air to air refueling, and get a look at one of the best maps in DCS. I know, a desert map might not sound that great since it's all tan. But I promise there's a lot more too it than just that. The textures are wonderful and the amount of work they did on the water is amazing. The city of Dubai is spectacular and the detail is wonderful.
When it comes to carrier landings the Su-33 is easier for me. But the takeoffs are tricky. Just start off with 50% fuel or less and between 0-4 missiles/ECM unit on each wing. Still, the F/A-18C is great. There's no need for limiting fuel or weapons load out and landing is simple enough. Just make sure you have the TACAN and ILS beacons set in the mission editor. I also prefer to use the Auto Throttle Control (ATC) while landing both planes. It's just easier that way.
Head on over to the DCS E-store or Steam and give them a try. Once the time period is over you don't have to buy all 3 if you don't want too. But you certainly can if you liked them.
And just to let everyone know, on October 7 Heatblur will be revealing their F-14A/B Tomcat to the public. I think it's a safe bet that they will also start pre-orders around that time too with it finally being released in November or maybe December. Head on over to www.heatblur.com to see the big reveal. They have a countdown timer running.

DCS: Heatblur Update
There hasn't been much news coming from Eagle Dynamics lately. Oh, they've updated the Hornet a bit and the WWII Asset Pack. But nothing has been said at all about the new planes we're all waiting for.
That is, until just today. Heatblur has posted a video on YouTube just a little bit ago. You can watch it here:
Now, from what I can gather they seem to be creating an AI version of the A-6 and hoping that ED will allow them to create a full fidelity module of it. Also, they seem to have something planned for the F-14 on October 7th at 8pm Central European time (that's around 3pm for those of us in the Beijing, Manila, Hong Kong time zone). Are they going to release the F-14 on that day? I highly doubt it. Honestly, it's looking more and more like we won't see it until sometime in December. That's pretty bad considering they were promising it by December last year. But, maybe we'll get some kind of answer as to what is going on and when they will finally release it.
Personally, I'm getting bored just flying the same planes over and over waiting for the F-14, F-4, JF-17, Mig-19, and Mig-23. But, waiting is all any of us can do. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

DCS: Missing AIM-120 Loading Options - Fixed
I just tried out the Mig-21 and the F/A-18C and they are looking good. The Mig is back and the cockpit is looking nice ( just turn the brightness on the warning lights down and you can see the texts). But the big thing is with the F/A-18C.
That "Missing AIM-120 loading options - fixed" on the last update has two parts.
First: the AIM-120B can be loaded on ALL pylons now, not just the two fuselage and the two outer pylons. That's a nice update. You can also load 2 120B's on each wing pylon. So you can now get 10 AIM-120B's on your Hornet.
Second: the AIM-120C is already available on the plane. That's right, we were teased that it would be on the next big update. But, instead they put it in the Hotfix. A nice little surprise if I do say so myself. I just tried it out and downed a Mig-29 and a Su-25. My AI wingman didn't do anything but distract the Mig-29 but that's what he's there for.
So, go ahead. Load up DCS and yell "FOX THREE!!!!" at your computer while you put those pesky Mig and Su fighters in their place. Just don't wake up the neighbors.

DCS: SURPRISE!!!!!
About four days ago I posted an update saying that said Eagle Dynamics was going to release the Yak-52 this month. And here it is! Out of pure honesty I expected the traditional pre-order period and then the actual release, however, ED has forgone the pre-order and went straight to release. It's a nice little plane and, so far, the only prop driven plane that is not a tail dragger that you are able to fly in DCS.
Personally, I'm not one for aerobatics and trainers. So, you can bet I won't be adding this to my arsenal, but if you like to role-play in your games and want to start off as a fresh Russian pilot then go ahead. Or if you simply like prop driven aerobatics then take a look at it. It's $39.99 which is significantly lower in price compared to the Hornet.
That was the first surprise. The next surprise? With the Hotfix update that was just released we can, once again, fly our beloved Mig-21's and SA342's. I expected those to be fixed in next weeks full feature update but they pushed it through along with getting DCS ready for the Yak. This is a very welcome surprise and I'll be jumping in my Mig-21 in just a few minutes. (I love that plane).
There are a few other things that were updated with this Hotfix so here's the list:
DCS World
* 4th client will not explodes when appears on carrier deck.
* ME. Added option to select which CAT a client or player spawns on.
DCS F/A-18C Hornet
* Corrected AIM-120 HUD symbol.
* Added Rmin, Rne, and Rmax indications on radar display.
* Missing AIM-120 loading options - fixed.
* Corrected AIM-120 loadout mass and drag.
* Wings will be folded in the spawn on the carrier parking hot.
Campaigns
* Spitfire Epsom Campaign. Update to all 12 missions that adds drop tanks and bombs to Spitfire flights where appropriate. It also adds a section on dive bombing tactics to the mission 2 and mission 12 briefing.
* Viggen Red Flag Campaign. Update to lineup cards for mission 2-10.
I'm curious as to what the "Missing AIM-120 loading options - fixed" is. I'll be checking that out shortly also. I hope they fix the second wire on the Stennis soon. I keep catching that wire and being flung off the carrier because that wire warps backwards.
